We tried several chip and pin cards and the situation became almost comical as we went back and forth. My companion asked about candy floss which other tables were provided with only to be advised it had to be ordered when the original restaurant had always brought it automatically. The waiter brought the bill without being asked for it and without the offer of a coffee. However that is when the real fun and games started. With a glass of wine my half of the bill came to an eye watering £179 but of course being a upscale restaurant in Manhattan this was not an unexpected price especially compared to the equivalent places in say Paris, Geneva or London. The starter beet salad was in reality just an ordinary salad, the main was a rather overdone mignon with spinach and desert was an over chewy lemon meringue. The service was prompt almost to the point of being militaristic. Once inside we were led quickly to our seats through a myriad of rather plain wood panelled corridors which opened up into a large pleasantly lighted seated area. We both traversed the street it is on several times before we were finally able to find it’s location. It has no obviously significant signage at the front until you are right outside the door and so is easily missed. Firstly the restaurant is very difficult to identify. Sadly our experience was most underwhelming. who is also somewhat of a bon vivre and she had similar expectations to mine. I attended a dinner with a New Yorker friend of mine.
